Why is blogging relevent in education.

Technology is important throughout any person's life. In education, technology has an important role in not only teaching, but how students learn. We use technology everyday via computers, videos, phones, music players (mp3's/ipods), hand held organizers, and so forth. Most households have a computer with internet access. Teachers communicate with students and parents through meetings, emails, notes, and phone calls. Many times though, the communication is slow or gets "lost". A teacher that sets up a blog has a great way to post information for students and parents, also, a great way to receive information from students and parents. A teacher may post daily homework, the weekly schedules, or information about the class or lesson. A teacher may post additional work or resources that can be used with the class lesson. A student that is absent can check the blog for information on what the class did that day and get the homework that is due. A teacher can also use the blog to get information from parents or students. Parents may post comments or concerns so the teacher can review and follow up on. Blogging can be a wonderful resource to expand your class.

Hello Allen,

I enjoyed reading your blog. I found it to be stragight forward and to the point.
After reading your blog I saw a couple of things I could have added to my blog, too.

I agree it is a great way to communicate with parents. However, I wonder how many parents would take of advantage of it. That is one of the number one problems that I have quite a few of parents aren't as supportive as they should be. My students have a difficulty time just having their parents sign their planners let alone getting on the internet to read a blog.

I too wonder about parents and how they would take advantage of it. However, I think it could be a great way to communicate with students...but the sites are all blocked in my district.

I agree, what a great way to communicate! You can expand your classroom to new heights. Imagine posting homework on your blog and increasing the odds of parents helping out.
